As a personal trainer, I can't stress enough the importance of a balanced nutritional plan. I'm not talking about a "diet". In fact, I never use that word. My reason is simple. Diets are looked at as something that you go on and off of depending on what you are trying to accomplish. My goal, is to help people to better understand that the key to success is not to yo-yo diet, but to look at the bigger picture. Sure, you want to look great for those holiday family photos, or that vacation you're going on soon. But, wouldn't you rather feel AND look good for the next 10 years? In order to do that, you must focus on creating a balanced nutritional plan that works for your lifestyle. Healthy and fit isn't a current state of mind, it is a lifestyle.
So what steps can you take towards a better lifestyle? The answer is simple; babysteps. Slowly introduce healthier options to sub out the bad habits that got you into this position in the first place. Sometimes, the first step isn't even to take something away, but to add something you never had before. Breakfast is one of the best first steps to take! A large majority of people I come across say they don't eat breakfast because they don't have the time. Others will swing through their local fast food chain to grab a quick coffee and breakfast sandwich. For anyone in a time crunch, a breakfast protein smoothie is a great option to help jumpstart your metabolism for the day. The protein packed drink will help to keep you feeling full until lunch time, and the fruits and veggies are going to give you the nutrients your body craves to help give you the energy to tackle the day.
Don't let the idea of changing your lifestyle overwhelm you, just take it slow and look for healthier substitutions whenever possible. Building off of those small changes will help you to create a healthier you in no time!
